I was trained with a pencil. It is my connection with inspiration, it is tried and true. I also work with CAD when I can take advantage of other technologies to push what is possible with the work. Regardless of the use of technology my work is low tech and hand made. Attention to detail and scale of material along with care in finishing the work is what helps to set the work apart.
The pencil is where it starts. This gate was the final piece of railing design around a patio.
The revision process never stops. Many changes and adjustments take place as each piece is hand formed.
Mountain Gate in formed steel flat bar with a powder coated finish. A composite of the local mountains of San Luis Obispo County. The gate was designed to match the railing completed several years earlier.
Mountain Railing is an idealized rendering of Big Sur as seen from the ocean.
This railing was designed in two parts. The lower railing designed for privacy is powder coated tube steel frames with wood infill. The upper rail is a hand formed steel flat bar designed to represent the hills of Central California with a bit of Big Sur in the mix.
